Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An adorable hollow-molded and highly-burnished brownware pottery dog effigy vessel with expressive facial features, an upturned tail, a corpulent body, and an upturned rim atop the back. The perky, concave ears are surrounded by curving incised lines, with an upturned nose, coffee-bean-shaped eyes, and a wide grinning mouth completing the countenance. While most collectors are familiar with puppies coming from the Colima region, canines from Jalisco are relatively rare. Size: 7.25" L x 3.625" H (18.4 cm x 9.2 cm).

Condition
Surface wear and minor abrasions commensurate with age, small nicks to ears, mouth, body, tail, and spout, with fading to coloration and some finer incised details. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
