Description
**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Valdivian, ca. 1800 to 1500 BCE. An intriguing hatchet-sized axe carved from mottled emerald-green stone with dark inclusions. The tool has a cylindrical handle, an angular shoulder, and a crescent-shaped blade edge. The lustrous stone from which this axe was carved indicates that it had a symbolic ceremonial purpose or was perhaps carved as a funerary offering. Size: 8" L x 3.2" W (20.3 cm x 8.1 cm).
