Grosse Statuette eines Schreitenden Höflings
Ägypten, Altes Reich, 6. Dynastie (Pepi II.), um 2200 v. Chr.

Sammlung des Auktionators Couturier, Paris.

Der Höfling bzw. der Beamte steht aufrecht in Schrittstellung da – das linke Bein vorgestellt –, wobei beide Beine gleichmässig belastet sind. Er trägt einen Lendenschurz, dessen ursprüngliche Stuckierung und weisse Färbung z.T. noch deutlich sichtbar sind. Den Kopf bedeckt eine kurze Löckchenperücke, die einst schwarz gefärbt war. Die Gesichtszüge sind geprägt durch grosse Augen, eine fleischige Nase und einen breiten Mund und sie geben den entscheidenden Datierungshinweis. Die heute fehlenden Arme waren separat gearbeitet und eingesetzt. Basis und der rechte Unterschenkel sind ebenfalls verloren.

The official Stands upright in a striding position, distributing his weight evenly on both legs. He wears a loincloth on which traces of the original layer of stucco and white colour are in part still clearly visible. The head is covered by a short curly wig that was once black. The facial features of the man are quite distinctive, with large eyes, a fleshy nose and a broad mouth, and are decisive for the dating of the piece. The arms, which were made seperately, the base and the right lower leg are missing.
