Byron's celebrated account of his 1933-34 Middle Eastern journey. Accompanied part of the way by Christopher Sykes, he traveled to Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Persia and Afghanistan. Byron, who died young in the Second World War, was one of the Brideshead set immortalized by Evelyn Waugh, and was also the foremost travel writer of his age.
