Item Details
Description
**Originally Listed At $150**

Thomas Baxter (British, 1782-1821), three engravings entitled,"Grecian Musical Performers", "Greek Tumbling", and "Comedian & Masks", from Thomas Baxter, "An Illustration of the Egyptian, Grecian, and Roman costume: in forty outlines, with descriptions," (London, 1810), once in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston collection - see stamp on verso of each. All plates are signed as drawn and engraved by T. Baxter. The book that included these engravings was dedicated by Thomas Baxter to Henry Fuseli, Esq., Professor in Painting, and Keeper of the Royal Academy. Thomas Baxter was a China painter in addition to being an engraver. He studied and exhibited at the Royal Academy and his works demonstrate a striking penchant for line and an embrace of the Neoclassical movement. According to Baxter, inspiration for his compositions came from imagery found in pieces from Herculaneum and other ancient sites. Three beautiful examples of Baxter's work, each one set in a black mat. Size: 9" L x 12.125" W (22.9 cm x 30.8 cm); 11" L x 14.875" W (27.9 cm x 37.8 cm) matted
