Item Details
Description
**Originally Listed At $400**

Late Roman to early Byzantine period, ca. 5th to 9th century CE. A very rare and unusual vessel of a type seldom seen. Wheel thrown pottery cylinder with tapered foot, stamped design on "top" of Jesus and another figure - probably Mary. What is so fascinating about this object is that it was sealed in antiquity and has been opened at the "plug." What emerges is a sandy mixture that has what appears to be flecks of gold or highly concentrated pyrite. Very rare and fascinating mystery! Size: 7" H (17.8 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Hagar Collection
