Description
Anderson Robert
Fine Albumen Photo of Civil War Generals Anderson and Burnside
A fine condition albumen photograph. Photograph protected in card folder with cloth spine; with explanatory paragraph affixed to inner front cover. Page with photo is mounted with corner tabs; includes a tissue guard. Uneven toning to mount, 6.5" x 5"
An excellent photo in highly collectible condition of Civil War Generals Robert Anderson and Ambrose Burnside seated together with another, unidentified gentleman on the front porch of an unknown residence, with a house servant standing directly behind Anderson. This photograph was likely included in the Philadelphia Photographer, and is accompanied by a modern, typed explanatory paragraph that would have been published with the photo, describing the photographer, his process, and the camera used to take the image. In this case, the photo was taken by J.C. Brown while out "along the noble Hudson." As they drove by in a carriage, Brown immediately recognized Anderson and Burnside, and proposed to take a picture of them at the nearby home of a mutual friend.
