Author: Oliver Goldsmith - Oliver Goldsmith was an Irish novelist, playwright and poet, who is best known for his novel "The Vicar of Wakefield" (1766), his pastoral poem "The Deserted Village" (1770), and his plays "The Good-Natur'd Man" (1768) and "She Stoops to Conquer" (1771, first performed in 1773). He is also thought to have written the classic children's tale "The History of Little Goody Two-Shoes" (1765).

Book Details: This antique title is bound in full leather with green leather tabs reinforcing the binding. An engraved frontispiece portrait and numerous other engraved portraits supplement the text. An added subtitle reads: "To Which is Added, a Continuation from the Death of George the Second to the Celebration of the Jubilee of His Majesty King George the Third", by D. Rivers, Esq.

In its day “The History of England†provided a vast amount of information for the general reader, some accurate, but a great deal false, in easy, gracious prose.
Condition / Notes: This antique volume displays some typical indications of age and wear, including shelfwear and rubbing. The boards and front endpaper are detached, however the text block remains sound. Text and illustrations remain clear and crisp through mild/moderate age toning/foxing.
