Antique German Folk Art tea cup. Thick, salt glazed earthenware. Two tone glaze - dark brown outside, cream white inside, slipware dot flowers decorations. Marking, inscriptions on the bottom : V B U. Gerstungen, on the River Werra in Thuringia, Germany, made during late 19th century. Pottery production in the town dates back to the 16th century, and this cup is a characteristic example of the specific type of earthenware produced in the region.
