Description

Friedrich Adolphi Lampe THEOLOGI CONSUMMATI DISSERTATIONUM PHILOLOGICO-THROLOGICARUM ACCEDUNT ORATIONES 1737 Vellum Binding Engraving Textual Criticism Literary Linguistics History Theology Religion Pietist Dogmatics

Title: Theologi Consummati: Dissertationum Philologico-Theologicarum. Accedunt Orationes
Author: Frid. Adolphi Lampe - Friedrich Adolph Lampe was a German Pietist pastor, theologian and professor of dogmatics. He was a Cocceian, and follower of Johannes d'Outrein. He is known as the first Pietist leader from a Calvinist rather than Lutheran background.

Lampe was especially influenced by pietism and saw inner life development as very important, and he was also a strong believer in the divinity of the church. His most prominent work was "Geheimniß des Gnadenbunds...", published in six volumes from 1712. In 1726 he published Synopsis historiae sacrae. He also published a number of catechisms; among them were Milch der Wahrheit, nach Anleitung des Heidelberge Katechismus (1718), Einleitung zu dem Geheimnis des Gnadenbundes, and Delineatio theologae activae, considered to be the "first system of ethics derived from federal theology".

Book Details: This antique Latin volume, Vol. II only, is bound in decoratively blindstamped vellum. The spine features a very neat handwritten ink title, raised bands, and stamped tooling. Engraved capitals, in-text ornamentation and ornament to the title page enhance the text. There are copious indices. This volume contains the philological-theological dissertation of Friedrich Adolph Lampe.

Condition / Notes: This antique volume shows nicely with some typical indications of age and wear, including shelfwear and light soiling. The front hinge is slightly cracked, however the binding and text block remain firm. The text is clear and crisp through very mild age toning. The front pastedown bears the bookplate of Henry James Grasett, Canadian army and militia officer and Toronto police chief, who is the longest-serving police chief in the history of the Toronto Police, having served for 34 years from 1886 to 1920 as Chief Constable. A plate from the Wycliffe College Library in Toronto is affixed to the endpaper flyleaf which also bears a price sticker. The pastedown endpapers show mild tears.
