Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel Manuscript Document Signed "Hegel." One page, 8.5" x 14", Nuremberg; September 2, 1814. A certificate of learning issued to Johann Christoph Sigmund Lechner, Signed by Hegel as the rector of the Nuremberg Ägidiengymnasium. With a blind embossed seal alongside Hegel's bold signature. Filing docket on verso reads, "1814". Hegel had served as the rector at the gymnasium since 1808, and this was his first well-paying position at an academic institution. Prior to that he had worked as a newspaper editor. Although not the university position he aspired to, Hegel was very active in furthering his own work on logic and metaphysics. He published the first volume of his series the Science of Logic in 1812, and the second volume in 1813, during his tenure as rector. Condition: Scattered foxing, and flattened folds. Hegel's signature is very bold. The lot includes a slip identifying the piece from a previous collector that reads: "Hegel, the great philosopher" in German.
