Description
Hand carved wooden mold, used for casting Iron blacksmithing anvils. Such forms are hand carved and crafted, to specific requirements from blacksmiths. They are then suspended in sand and used to cast an Iron Anvil - the process known as Sand Casting. The mold separates in half into two identical parts. Signed on the side, with an Aztec-style Swastika form - perhaps a trade mark of the craftsman. Note how deeply carved it is - to insure that it would show up on the cast iron final product.Original antique industrial piece, 19th century. American in origin.
