Lot of 19 antique cast iron sad irons with removable handles. Some of the irons are missing their wooden handles. These sturdy cast iron clothes irons would likely have been filled with glowing coals that would heat the iron. The wooden handle was necessary to stop users from getting burned. The term sad iron doesn't refer to the emotion sad, but rather sad was used to mean heavy.The dimensions range from 1.75in x 8in x 2.5in to 2in x 6.75in to 3.75in.
