Description
Etruria, northern Italy, Etrusco-Corinthian, ca. 630 to 540 BCE. Two stout and sturdy terracotta cream-hued slipware aryballoi with a stable dimpled base, smooth and bulbous body each with a petaled flower on its face, a narrow neck, collared rim with an applied handle joining rim and body, a faded bullseye design on the rim top, and a narrow mouth. Vessels like this would have contained oils, perfumes or other uncommon liquids and would have been seen in great numbers in typical Grecian or Etruscan domiciles.
