Early Edo Period Japanese Matchlock Musket.
Unserialized, .50 caliber, 39-inch octagonal barrel with fixed front sight and fixed grooved-block rear sight. Decorative etched floral designs to top of barrel. Brass lock, hammer and trigger. Smooth hardwood full-body stock with decorative and engraved brass inlays. Wood ramrod. Original brass museum inventory tag attached: J.M. DAVIS / 7954 / MEMORIAL.
Sold to Benefit The JM Davis Collection at the JM Davis Arms and Historical Museum.
Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a dark grey patina with scattered signs of handling wear, age and pitting. Scuffs and dings present to stock. Noticeable repair to base of grip. Action functions. Dark bore.
