Description
Pair of Chinese Qing Dynasty delicately potted porcelain bowls with external reverse depictions of bamboo. Rounded forms curving to a slightly flared rim, raised upon a shallow footed base. Exterior covered in a vibrant crimson red around the reverse decoration of white underglazed bamboo sprigs motif. Bamboo is seen as a virtuous symbol in Chinese culture and also embodies traditional Chinese ways. The immaculate porcelain body is covered with a characteristic silky glaze. The color is balanced, elegant and exquisite. Resting upon a pair of delicately potted hardwood stands that fit securely into a rectangular wooden display box. Underbase with Qianlong sixteen characters reign mark in underglaze blue, Qing Dynasty.

PROVENANCE:
James Barnes (1939-2016) of Memphis, TN; survived by two sisters who have decided to sell some of his treasured collections to fund charitable foundations that he was actively involved in. These collections were inherited from his Father-in-law (Kenneth Harlin) at his passing in 1967. Mr. Harlin had an early film career in the 1920-1930s as an international traveler he was able to bring back treasures from around the world.
The Collections of Mr. James Barnes presented and offered up to auctions from Lot-37 through Lot-50.
