Second half 19th century, 101 x 85 cm, North West Anatolia, Bergama region
This small and nearly square rug was made in the village of Kozak situated north of Bergama in Izmir Province. Two large blue octagons, each enclosing a purple stepped polygon decorated with hooks, dominate the white field adorned with additional, small floral stars. The corners are accentuated by triangles with an interior design of tiny dots. Blossoms alternate with diagonal crosses in the yellow-ground border. – Original finishes all around, minor damage along the sides, good overall condition.
