Description
Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. late 4th to 2nd century BCE. A fragment of a bronze panel or plaque, decorated with repousse figures, one of which is well preserved on the fragment - a standing woman playing a tambourine-like instrument, which she holds raised in one hand above her head. Her hair is coiffed atop her head, her clothing detailed and flowing. A decorative border is visible around her. Who does the woman represent? A dancer, a mourner? What is this fragment from? A temple, or a memorial? We may never know the answers to these questions, but it is certainly fascinating to muse on them. Size: 3.5" W x 4.75" H (8.9 cm x 12.1 cm); 6.1" H (15.5 cm) on included custom stand.
