Item Details
Description
Greek South Italic Colonies, Italy, Apulia/Daunian, ca. 300 BCE. A charming ceramic askos made for baby-feeding or possibly use by priests. The body is flask like, rounded, and vaguely zoomorphic, with a long, thin feeding tube off one end like a tail and a tall, cylindrical spout with a very wide, nearly flat mouth. A disc projects from the central of the body, mirroring the shape of the mouth. Black and dark red linear swirls and shapes contrast against the buff background of the piece. Size: 5.2" W x 3.1" H (13.2 cm x 7.9 cm)

Provenance: private California, USA collection
