Description
**First Time At Auction**
Magna Graecia, South Italic, Daunian, ca. 300 BCE. A delightful pottery kyathos or dipper vessel, with a characteristic horizontal looped handle attached to a shallow bowl with a subtly flared rim. Boasting black, red, and beige pigments, the ancient vessel is hand-painted with a series of concentric circles encompassing the interior and exterior, as well as undulating striation motifs and a wavy, cross-like design at the center of the basin. Though many Daunian vessel forms were strongly influenced by the native Italians of this region, the kyathos was a Greek creation. Size: 4.8" L x 3.9" W (12.2 cm x 9.9 cm); 5.5" H (14 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private Vero Beach, Florida, USA collection, acquired before 2003

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.
