Description
STAFFORDSHIRE TRANSFER-PRINTED CERAMIC PLATES, LOT OF NINE, each having red transfer design of "Palestine" pattern, comprising three 7 1/2" D examples, four 9 1/2" D examples, and two 10 1/2" D examples. Each with impressed "ADAMS" and printed "PALESTINE" marks to base. William Adams IV & Sons, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. Second quarter 19th century. 7 1/2" and 10 1/2" D.
Seven examples undamaged; one 7 1/2" D example with several flakes and a small chip to rim; one 10 1/2" D example with a glaze flake to rim. One 10 1/2" D example with small unglazed spots near rim, as made.
Literature: Transferware Collectors Club database pattern #2161.
Provenance: De-accessioned from the Reeves Collection, Washington and Lee University, and sold to benefit the Acquisitions Fund for all of the material.
