Description
A pair of Pre-Columbian ceramic figures. Lot includes a Mayan molded monkey faced figurine, c. AD 400 - 800, wearing elaborate costume including a tall headdress. H: 2 1/2 in (6.4 cm). Traces of slip. The second piece is a female head and torso, La Tolita, Colombia. C. 500 BC - AD 500, hair braided with central band, large ear spools, face nicely detailed. 2 7/8 in x 2 1/4 in (7.3 x 5.7 cm). Ex Washington, D.C. private collection; acquired in Colombia 3/23/1974 from San Diego Precolombinos, licensed by the Colombian Ministry of Mines.
