EDWARD BARNARD AND JOHN BARNARD (British, registered 1851) A VICTORIAN PERIOD STERLING AND SILVER GILT PRESENTATION EWER, LONDON, 1865-1866, the baluster form ewer with everted hinged lid, the body with bright cut eight point stars centering an oval reserve engraved "PRESENTED TO, THE, Revd Gustavus A. Burnaby, by several of the , Parishioners of St. Peter, Bedford, as a token of regard and esteem on, his leaving that Rectory and Parish, after a residence of Thirty one Years, August 1886," the center bisected by a band of chased Greek key design, raised on spreading foot, with a gilt silver serpent wrapped around the body serving as a handle, marked (lion passant, leopard's head, duty), "EB, &, JB, k," with British design registry mark for November 29, 1854, total approximate silver weight: 27.615 troy ounces. Height: 13" Width: 5 1/8" Depth: 5" Provenance: The personal collection of Colonel Frederick Gustavus Burnaby, member of the Royal Horse Guards, a cavalry regiment of the British Army.
Condition
In overall fair condition with significant denting to the sides, including engraved presentation reserve, evidence of prior restoration to the foot, minor rubbing and loss to gilt snake.
