Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A group of five bronze sewing needles, four with a single eye, one with two eyes. Needles are an almost unchanging technology from the invention of eyes sometime in the Upper Paleolithic, and these bronze examples would have been used by Romans to sew clothing. Size of longest (all are fairly similar): 4.6" L (11.7 cm)
Provenance: private Carlton collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired between 1965 and 1980
