1st-3rd century AD. A mixed group of bronze medical or cosmetic and writing implements comprising: a set of tweezers with suspension loop; a ligula with a U-section bowl; a needle with tapering step and oval-shaped 'eye' and a second needle with a lozengiform head and circular 'eye'; a specillum with round-section stem, barley-twist lower body and small bowl; a stylus with tapering round-section stem and rhomboidal head. 65 grams total, 6.2-14.5cm (2 1/2 - 5 3/4"). Property of a London, UK, gentleman; formerly in the collection of a medical professional from Shrewsbury, Shropshire, UK, since the late 20th century; acquired from various sources on the UK art market.
