Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 2nd century BCE. A lovely pair of wheel-thrown pottery spindle jars which held perfumes or precious oils. One vessel has a creamy beige surface color with a flat base, piriform body, elongated neck, and wide-collared rim. The second orange-red-hued vessel has a slight concave foot with a pinched base, a bulbous body with a tall neck, and a similar collared rim as its partner. Size of tallest: 9.875" H (25.1 cm).
Provenance: private Schroeder collection, Boca Raton, Florida, USA, acquired before 1970

Cream-hued vessel has been repaired from several large pieces. Both vessels have expected age-commensurate surface wear, minor losses to rims and bases, and earthen and mineral deposits throughout.
