Description
Ancient Greece, early Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd century BCE. A fine mold-made terracotta votive shield of a discoid form with a concave base, a pair of pierced suspension holes, and a stylized gorgon face in low relief, perhaps Medusa. The central gorgon head made this votive object one of apotropaic value, symbolically protecting an individual against bad luck or evil influences. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 3.7" in Diameter x 3.625" H (9.4 cm x 9.2 cm).
