Description
**Originally Listed At $250**
Western Africa, Nigeria, Yoruba peoples, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A tall and slender figure, hand-carved from a hard wood, representative of an anthropomorphic female. She stands atop an integral circular platform with delineated legs, and displays a small bulging element in the middle of her chest. Her tubular head displays expressive eyes, a prominent nose, full lips, and cupped ears, all beneath an upswept plaited coiffure. The distended abdomen and the way her arms are grasping her breasts, perhaps indicative of pregnancy, suggest this figure was likely a fertility statue created to be kept in the home. Custom wooden display stand included. Size: 13.625" H (34.6 cm); 14.125" H (35.9 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, Illinois, USA acquired prior to 1970
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
