Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. An amusing cast-bronze seated monkey figurine. The simian statuette sports a pair of bent legs, one hand resting on one knee and the other draped down its side, with a broad torso and rounded shoulders framing its overall appearance. A curved back leads upwards to a naturalistic head complete with cupped ears, almond-shaped eyes, a short snout with stylized nostrils, and thin lips. Covered in a lustrous dark-brown patina with areas of russet and emerald hued patina as well, this is a fabulous example from the Roman Empire! Size: 0.7" W x 1.625" H (1.8 cm x 4.1 cm).

Condition
Age-commensurate surface wear, fading to some facial features, and some discoloration, otherwise intact and excellent. Light earthen deposits as well as lovely russet, green, and dark-brown patina throughout.
