Description
**First Time At Auction**
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A fine group of twenty-eight bronze items which comprise portions of a belt and/or a harness fitting. Six pieces are shaped like slender leaves; seven pieces are hoops or buckles with either a pin or external components attached; three pieces are small ringlets with sloping sides; six pieces are spade-shaped ornaments or perhaps buttons; one piece is a twin-lobed button adorned with concentric circles; four pieces are indiscernible fragments of bent bronze; and last is an ornate attachment with a flowing openwork design. A wonderful gathering! Size of largest (openwork attachment): 2.25" W x 3.5" H (5.7 cm x 8.9 cm).
Provenance: ex-estate of the late John Piscopo, San Diego, California, USA. Mr. Piscopo was one of the largest collectors of ancient weapons in the US with a collection that spanned all cultures, all ages.

Condition
All items are fragments of a larger item or items. All pieces have age-commensurate surface wear, small nicks around peripheries, with some items having small losses as well, otherwise very good. Light earthen deposits and nice green patina throughout.
