A rare old carved wooden face mask with kaolin clay painted surface accented with reddish and orange clay pigments. Igbo peoples, Nigeria, Africa.The mask measures 9 x 6 ( 10.5 inches tall on simple display stand)Ex Prof. Charles Bordogna collection, New Jersey. Professor Charles Bordogna served as curator of the SMA Fathers African Art Museum in tenafly , NJ from 1982 until 1996. Bordogna is the author of several publications on African Art, including "Masks of Liberia", " A Tanzanian Tradition" and "Surfaces: Ritual Application on African Sculpture" (Co-authored with Leonard Kahan, P.Imperato, D. Page) as well as other text's.
