A very finely carved old wooden mask from the Bassa ethnic group, with highly stylized curved face, cornrow coiffure and incised designs, Bassa people from the Dan complex of Tribes, Liberia, Africa.Ex Prof. Charles Bordogna collection, New Jersey. Professor Charles Bordogna served as curator of the SMA Fathers African Art Museum in tenafly , NJ from 1982 until 1996. Bordogna is the author of several publications on African Art, including "Masks of Liberia", " A Tanzanian Tradition" and "Surfaces: Ritual Application on African Sculpture" (Co-authored with Leonard Kahan, P.Imperato, D. Page) as well as other text's.
