Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A lovely duo of mold-made terracotta redware zoomorphic votive figures depicting a horse and a pig. The horse's powerful body stands atop an integral rectangular platform with conjoined front and back legs, a stocky torso, and a naturalistic head. The pig stands atop four squat legs with a bulbous body, upturned snout, and a crest of hair running from head to posterior. Miniature figures like these were typically created to be left at altars or temples as offerings. A wonderful group! Size of largest (horse): 3.875" H (9.8 cm).

Pig repaired from multiple pieces with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Head and base of horse repaired. Both figures have expected age-commensurate surface wear, small chips to heads and bodies, fading to some details, otherwise very good. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
