**First Time At Auction**
New World, Hawaiian Islands, ca. late 19th century CE. A beautiful and finely-grained monarchical cup made from a hollowed and shaved coconut. The cup has a tiered wooden pedestal foot with a ringed base. The cup is comprised of a dark-brown and orange coconut shell with a scalloped rim and polished to a lustrous sheen. A small metal screw is threaded through the bottom of the cup and into the wooden base below. Cups like this example were typically used in royal dinners, celebrations, or other events of monarchical importance. The meticulous detail and expert craftsmanship that went into crafting this cup make this a truly regal example! Size: 5.5" W x 6.75" H (14 cm x 17.1 cm).

Condition
Large fissure stretching across roughly one-third of cup stabilized with light adhesive material. Expected surface wear and abrasions, normal fading to wood, with some roughness to pedestal base and vessel interior - all commensurate with age. Light earthen deposits throughout.
