North America, Hawaiian Islands, ca. early 20th century CE. A beautiful and finely-grained monarchical goblet made from a hollowed and shaved coconut. The cup is comprised of a dark-brown and orange coconut shell with a scalloped rim and polished to a lustrous sheen. The cup has a tiered wooden pedestal foot with a ringed base attached through the bottom of the cup with a small metal screw. Cups like this example were typically used in royal dinners, celebrations, or other events of regal importance. The meticulous detail and expert craftsmanship that went into creating this cup make it a truly opulent example! Size: 5" W x 6.75" H (12.7 cm x 17.1 cm).

Age-commensurate surface wear and abrasions, small areas of roughness to pedestal base, and some light discoloration. Nice patina to wooden base. Old inventory label underneath base.
