Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche V, ca. 600 to 800 CE. A mold-made terracotta vessel depicting a vigilant warrior with a stable base, attenuated legs, bent arms grasping a long pole, rounded shoulders, and a straight back. His visage is comprised of almond-shaped eyes, thin lips, large ears, and a protruding nose; his large headband, with a single cream-hued stripe in the center, doubles as a slightly flared rim. The orange-slip on cream ground as well as nice burnishing marks gives this vessel a wonderful earthtone appearance. Size: 5.5" H (14 cm).
