Later Impression of an engraving after Hogarth's original oil portrait. One of the most famous 18th century dramatic images from the English stage, with Garrick playing Richard III in the famous tent scene (Act 5, Scene 7) prior to the battle of Bosworth, when Richard is panicked by the ghosts of his murder victims and their forecasts of his doom.

The original painting, which now which hangs at the National Museum in Liverpool, is slightly larger than 6 x 8 feet. Charles Grignion and Hogarth collaborated on many engravings after Hogarth's paintings. It was the part of Richard III that made Garrick the sensation of the London theatre scene in 1741, and established his reputation.
