This lot is oil on board, 15in x 11in, 18.5in x 14.5 in x 1.375in frame, monogrammed GMM and dated 1935 lower right, inscribed verso Chateau Doorway, and American Broaday artist supplier board in a Butler E 57th St NY labeled gesso frame. A special note is the large drop of green wall paint on the top edge, indicative of the work having been at one time in the recreation of Gertrudes Paris bedroom at her Old Westbury studio,items from which are offered ensemble as another lot.Provenance and Shipping: The first 100 lots in this sale are from the Studio of noted sculptor Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, founder of the Whitney Museum and great granddaughter of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt. Decorated with murals by prominent Gilded Age to Art Deco artist colleagues and the site of legendary soirees attended by a Whos Who of actors, painters and philanthropists, the property has been listed for sale, emptied of contents and staged for its real estate sale listing.
