Circa the second half of the 19th century. Gustave Courbet, 1819 to 1877, French artist, landscape, genre, and portrait painter. He is considered one of the finalists of romanticism and the founder of realism in painting. One of the largest artists in France during the 19th century, a key figure in French realism.
