Details: 6Pcs Africa Indonesia Collectibles GIFTS TO AMERICAN GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL & SOUVENIRS Kenyan Military Statue Indonesian Military Plaque African Rungu Libya Sabratha

These six pieces were either presented by foreign dignitaries to an American government official or obtained as souvenirs from various African countries.

A small plaque indicates that it was presented by Major General Anshory Tadjudin, Chief of Strategic Intelligence Agency of the Indonesian Armed Forces. The plaque measures approximately 4" x 6".

A statue of a lion features a plaque that indicates that the piece was presented by Brig J N Mwai, Kenya's Director of Military Intelligence. The statue stands approximately 7.5" high and its base measures approximately 8.75" long.

A small ornate plate emblazoned with a seal matching that of the Kenya Defence Forces seal on the statue of the lion features Arabic writing and the inscription "Intelligence & Military Security Staff." The plate measures approximately 8" in diameter.

A vintage plate depicting a scene of Sabratha, an ancient Roman city and UNESCO World Heritage site located in Libya, measures approximately 10" in diameter.

A rungu, or wooden throwing club or baton, is adorned with a gilt coin that indicates the piece came from Nairobi, Kenya. The rungu is a traditional weapon that is of symbolic significance to several East African tribes. The piece measures approximately 22" long.

A small scabbard in a glass case contains what may be considered an Arabic jambia. Commonly worn by men in Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and other Middle Eastern countries, the jambia is an ornamental dagger with several traditional uses. This piece, however, appears to be a replica and may be intended as a letter opener. Unsheathed, the piece measures approximately 5.5" long. The base measures approximately 8.25" x 3.5" with its glass case.

The items in this consignment come to us from the estate of a noted U.S. government official who began his career as a Navy captain in the 1970s and rose to high-ranking positions in the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Central Intelligence Agency, and the Department of State. Over the course of more than fifty years of service, this official traveled to hundreds of different nations to promote the interests of the United States abroad. Many of the items in this auction were obtained during those journeys and were either presented to the official by foreign dignitaries and military leaders or otherwise acquired as souvenirs and gifts.

Please attend our live sale to view these items and other interesting pieces in person.

Condition / Notes: A small chip is visible on the top of the lion statue. Some minor scratches may be seen on the commemorative plates. The glass case for the jambia lacks one pane. Otherwise these items show nicely and display only some common signs of age and wear.
