These two ceremonial Arabic jambia daggers are ornately decorated. These daggers are typically worn as an accessory in several Arab countries and are sometimes used to celebrate weddings and other special occasions. The more ornate the dagger, the higher the status of its holder.

The first of this pair of daggers measures approximately 7" from the butt of the handle to the tip of the blade when removed from its decorative scabbard.

The second dagger comes in a box display case, apparently from Yemen. A small card on the back of the case reads: "Alqods Lab., For Gifts, Mohammed Y. Alhaifi" and appears to bear a street address for the Old City of Sana'a, a 2,500 year old city in Yemen where people still live today. The box measures approximately 12.75" x 15.5".

The items in this consignment come to us from the estate of a noted U.S. government official who began his career as a Navy captain in the 1970s and rose to high-ranking positions in the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Central Intelligence Agency, and the Department of State. Over the course of more than fifty years of service, this official traveled to hundreds of different nations to promote the interests of the United States abroad. Many of the items in this auction were obtained during those journeys and were either presented to the official by foreign dignitaries and military leaders or otherwise acquired as souvenirs and gifts.

Condition / Notes: The Yemeni jambia has not been examined outside of its case. The box shows typical indications of age and wear. The other knife may have been repaired or modified at some point as it does not fit perfectly into its scabbard. The back of the scabbard has a leather cover with a small letter "S" handwritten in pencil. Overall both daggers show nicely.
