Description
Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero, Mezcala culture, ca. 400 to 100 BCE. A finely-crafted anthropomorphic figure assuming the fetal position, carved and string-cut from a green stone with wonderful red cinnabar highlighting the recessed areas. The figure is characteristically abstract and minimalistic, its face showing a prominent nose and recesses suggesting eyes and mouth. The torso, arms, hands, and legs are all delineated via the string-cut technique. A special example from the Mezcala. Size: 2.375" H (6 cm)
