MARCONI GUGLIELMO: (1874-1937) Italian Inventor, developed a radio telegraph system. Nobel Prize winner for Physics, 1909. Fine A.L.S, Guglielmo Marconi, four pages, 8vo, Naples, 18th August 1920, to Gigi, in Italian. On his ''Yacht Elettra'', attractive colour printed stationery, Marconi thanks his friend Gigi for his letter and states in part `..I might have to return to Rome in the next few days, earlier than expected.´ further referring to his yacht and saying `Here in Naples, everybody talks about the ''yacht'' with telephone and without cable connection.. Hallo(sic) Broomfield Elettra speaking(in English)..´ further again `It is not true that I intend to travel shortly to Spain with Nitty…I intend to make a tour with the children and then return to the Adriatic…Will be in Venice towards 10th-12th September with the yacht.. L´Elettra is always ready to receive your visit. I hope you will be able to join us together with Princess Viggiano..´ The letter bears at the heading an embossed attractive flag. EX £1000-1500 The yacht Elettra was bought by Marconi in 1921 and he converted it in a scientific laboratory for his experiments. After Marconi died, the boat was bought by the Italian government and was even used for military purposes during WWII.
