attributed to JOHN WHEELER GEER (American 1753-1828) A CONNECTICUT RIVER VALLEY CHIPPENDALE CHERRY BONNET TOP HIGHBOY, 1770-1790, the broken arch pediment cresting in rolled ends with dentil molding, and floret roundels, over pierced lattice webs, centering a fluted column surmounted by a flame finial, within two smaller flame finials, over an arrangement of drawers centering a square drawer carved with a full, wavy rosette, flanked by four graduating short drawers, above three graduating long drawers, within twisted rope columns, surmounting a base with a single long drawer, above a central drawer with a shell fan carving, flanked by two short drawers, raised on cabriole shell fan carved legs, terminating in claw and ball feet on carved pads, joined by a Queen Anne style shaped skirt, centering a shell fan arch within suspended finials. Height: 83 1/2" Width: 41" Depth: 19 1/2" NOTE: Secondary wood: Oak and Pine.
Condition
Extensive restoration on interior, various small apparent repairs, interior woods replaced, varnish applied, some pooling on twists of columns, lattice with heavy repairs, finials not original, hardware replaced, one scroll on a cabriole leg knee now loosened, general expected surface wear, but overall in very good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
