This is an interesting contemporary sculpture from the Dogon peoples, Mali, West Africa. A Wooden shrine figure representing 4 ancestors with arms raised to the heavens to pray to the star Sirius. The legend of the Nommo is quite fascinating and tells of a being from the stars coming down and eventually splitting into two males and two females, as this sculpture portays. The statue measures 15.5 x 6 inches. Shipping weight of 5 lbs.
