Description
Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Olmec culture, ca. 1150 to 550 BCE. A well-defined anthropomorphic pottery head displaying drilled eyes, a petite nose, full lips, and puffy cheeks, all capped with a simple coiffure. Inside the mouth are remnants of the original red cinnabar accents, and the entire head is colored with a dark-brown pigment. The head is drilled through the neck for mounting. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 1.75" H (4.4 cm); 3" H (7.6 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition
This is a fragment of a larger figure. Age-commensurate surface wear and abrasions, losses to portion of coiffure and neck, with some fading to pigmentation, otherwise very good. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
