Pre-Classic Culture of Mexico, Ca. 1150-550 B.C. Bth of better than average size; The tlatilco head with nice face with oval eyes with pierced pupils, relief nose.The other head is in the classic Olmec style, similar to objects in major museums and major private collections. This piece has similarities with examples found at Las Bocas and La Banca. It is well sculpted with pierced eyes, a fine nose and pouty mouth with minute remains of red pigment (one ear spool now gone)Both have have old custom bases. Larger: 3.5 inches (8.89 cm) H (without base) 5 inches (12.7 cm) (with base) 2.25 inches(5.7 cm) W. Smaller: 3.25 inches (8.25 cm) H (without base) 4.75 inches (12 cm) H (with base). 2 inches (5 cm) H. Provenance: Ex Southampton NY collector Michael R., acquired by descent though family.
