Item Details
Description
Pale gold and ivory velvet cut to cream satin with satin trim, front-lacing day bodice having 3/4 cuffed sleeve with bow detail, deep front and back points, sleeveless back-lacing evening bodice, trained skirt with self ruffle to the satin front panel, entire skirt hem backed with lace ruffle. Lot 122, purchased at Christie's Auction July 11, 1967. Helen Larson called this auction the "Queen's Auction" due to so many objects with royal provenance in the sale. The ensemble was part of a larger group of objects cataloged as follows: "The majority of the following dresses were the property of the late Princess Marie Elizabeth of Wied of Schloss Monrepos, Neuwied (b. 1880); many earlier dresses belonged to her grandmother, Princess Louise of Prussia", petersham label "Mode Bazar, Gerson & Co. Berlin", B-34, W-22, L-43-83. (Trim likely removed, small spot to evening bodice, two tiny dots and pulls to day bodice, tip of stay starting to poke out by laces, small cord loops on back point suggest a missing bow, few small brown spots on skirt back, some soil to the train) good.
