Description
Small hat of wired black velvet decorated with sequined black lace, black and white feathers, self chin strap with bow, silk lining. Label "L. Leopold Emmelhainz Nachf/Wiesbaden", 7 x 7 x 10. Bid through Doris Langley Moore at Christie's Auction July 11, 1967. Helen Larson called this auction the "Queen's Auction" due to so many objects with royal provenance in the sale. The ensemble was part of a larger group of objects cataloged as follows: "The majority of the following dresses were the property of the late Princess Marie Elizabeth of Wied of Schloss Monrepos, Neuwied (b. 1880); many earlier dresses belonged to her grandmother, Princess Louise of Prussia" (Chin strap lacking hook & eye closure and is pinned in place) very good.
