Description
Tan 2-piece having back-lacing bodice with deep front and back points, and short puffed sleeve, decorated with blue ribbon, lace and metallic gold thread, bodice and skirt center panel embroidered in blue and cream silk floral, the skirt having a series of scalloped ruffles, set in yellow silk appliquéd with a polychrome floral on pink set within blue braided wreaths with bows, tan scalloped hem ruffle. Exhibited at Disneyland in the 1965 Monsanto show "Fabrics and Fashions through the Ages", a press release stated, "The gown was worn by First Lady Julia Gardiner Tyler", (second wife of President Tyler) no further provenance found. B-34, W-22, L 44-52. (Holes in the hem binding, some light stains, 3-inch mend on skirt front trim, hem ruffle has some repairs, some tears to bodice trim, blue ribbon fragile and some splits, snaps added, lace torn at the neckline) good.
